The Police dağıldıktan sonra solo kariyerine devam eden grubun beyni diyebileceğimiz Sting sonraki yıllarda da çok başarılı işlere imza attı. Son derece hiperaktif olan bu güzel insan aynı zamanda yogayı geniş kitlelere sevdirmiş, insan hakları için değişik platformlarda mücadelesini sürdürmüş iyi de bir Newcastle United taraftarıdır.

Bu şarkının ilham kaynağı da İngiltere'de geniş arpa tarlalarının ortasında aldığı ev ve ikinci karısı Trudie Styler ile ondan dünyaya gelen dört çocuğu olmuştur. Yani son derece domestik ve insanı rahatlatan bir şarkı.

The Man Who Sold The World – Nirvana – MTV Unplugged In New York – 1993

Işin doğrusu hiçbir zaman Nirvana hayranı olmadım. Ancak bu liste de Nirvana olmasa eksik kalırdı. Ben de çözümü orijinali Nirvana’dan daha çok sevdiğim David Bowie’ye ait olan ve cover yaptıkları parçayı koymakta buldum ve bir taşla iki kuş vurdum.

Kurt Cobain’i de ölümünden sonra daha çok tanıdım ve daha çok sevdim. Karısı Courtney Love da Beatles hayranları için Yoko Ono neyse aynı kategoride bir nefret objesi olarak görüldü fakat ben öyle de görmedim. The People Vs. Larry Flynt filminde iyi bir oyuncu da olduğunu ayrıca kanıtladı.

Bu şarkıda Bowie’nin yaşadığı kişilik bunalımı ve alter ego’su olan Ziggy Stardust karakteriyle çatışması anlatılır. Ayrıca dizelerini çok beğendiğim William Hughes Mearns’ün Antigonish şiirinden de bir etkilenme olduğu bariz:

Evet babalar nihayet sahne alıyor. Daha mütevazı, daha az çalınan ama çok sevilen, Rolling Stone'un 311. sıraya koyduğu ama benim daha cömert davranıp 58. sıraya yerleştirdiğim bu şarkıyla huzurlarınızda 'The Beatles'.

Arkadaşlığın ve dostluğun hayatım boyunca önemini anlayıp hakkını vermeye en azından çalışmış bir insan olarak yılların süzgecinden geçip yakınımda olanların yanında seyrek görüştüğüm ama yine de sevdiğim, şu anda nerede olduğunu bile bilmediğim ama bende iz bırakmış olan herkese gitsin bu şarkı.

Bazen ailenizin ve en yakınlarınızın bile anlayamayacağı veya yardımcı olamayacağı durumlarda 'iyi ki dostlarım var' diyebiliyorsanız ne mutlu.

Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton – Slowhand – 1977

Karşımızda Hall of Fame’e adı tam 3 kez kazınan tek insan ve bir gitar dehası var. Eric Clapton olarak ve ayrıca Cream ve Yardbirds gruplarının üyesi olarak… Rolling Stone dergisinin ‘Tüm Zamanların En İyi Gitaristleri’ sıralamasında da ikinci gelmeyi başarmış bu müzisyene şapka çıkarılır.

Çocukluğu John Lennon ve Roger Waters kadar travmatik geçmiş olsa da şarkılarında bu çok belirgin değildir. Bir diğer ünlü Jack Nicholson gibi genç yaşta doğum yapan annesini ablası bilmesi ve büyükannesi tarafından yetiştirilmesi zor bir çocukluk gibi görünüyor.

Bu şarkının ilham kaynağı olan Patty Boyd ise aynı zamanda George Harrison’ın ilk karısıdır. 1966 – 1977 yılları arasında resmi olarak Harrison’ın karısı olan Boyd, boşandıktan sonra Eric Clapton ile 1979 yılında evlenmiş ve 1989 yılında aynı ilk evliliğinde olduğu gibi yoğun alkol ve uyuşturucu tüketimi ve Clapton’ın sadakatsizliği nedeniyle ondan da ayrılmış.

Gocce di Memoria – Giorgia – Single (La Finestra di Fronte Film Müziklerinden) – 2003

Listeye girmeyi başaran az sayıdaki İtalyanca parçadan birisi olan Gocce di Memoria 2003 yılında 120.000 kopya satarak o yılın açık ara en çok satılan single parçası olmuştur.

Çok başarılı bulduğum yönetmen Ferzan Özpetek’in yine çok beğendiğim ‘Karşı Pencere’ filminin vurucu bir şarkısıdır.

Gocce di Memoria ‘Anı Damlaları’ anlamına gelir ki zaten burada da hayatımızda iz bırakan insanları veya özel bir insanı anlatıyor. Bu şarkıda ise gerçekten çok acıklı bir hikaye var çünkü Georgia’nın erkek arkadaşı şarkıcı Alex Baroni 2002’de Roma’da bir trafik kazasında ölüyor ve Georgia da bu parçayı ona ithaf ediyor.

DIDO – Life For Rent – Life For Rent – 2003

2004 yazında Como gölü kıyısında Pınar’la Dido konseri izlemek çok zevkliydi. Çimenlerin üzerinde gerçekten unutulmaz bir Temmuz akşamı yaşamıştık.

Eminem’in yaptığı belki de tek hayırlı iş Dido’yu müzik dünyasına kazandırmak oldu, sayesinde güzel bir sesten güzel şarkılar dinledik.

Bu parça da aslında hayatımıza ne kadar sahip olamadığımızı, ona söz geçiremediğimizi ve kiralık hayatlar yaşadığımızı anlatıyor. Bir de bir zamanlar kurduğumuz hayallerin yıllar içerisinde nasıl kaybolduğunu ve başarısız olma korkusuyla denemediğimiz şeyler yüzünden aslında yaşıyor bile sayılamayacağımızı… Bir şarkıda bu kadar mesaj yeter de artar bile bence.

Roy Orbison – Crying – Crying - 1961

Listemde yer alan en eski şarkılardan birisi ki benim için modern anlamdaki müzik 1962’de Beatles ve Love Me Do ile başlar diyebilirim. 50’lerin Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino gibi Amerika kökenli Rock’n Roll gruplarına saygı duymakla beraber çok da bayıldığım söylenemez.

Roy Orbison hiç karizmatik olmayan görüntüsü ve sahnesine karşın müzik tarihinde The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello ve daha nice çok önemli şarkıcı ve grupların büyük sevgi ve saygısını kazanmış mümtaz bir şahsiyettir.

Rolling Stone dergisiyle ortak noktalarımızdan bir tanesi de bu şarkı çıktı çünkü onlar da 69. sıraya almışlar. Orijinal versiyonu yerine 1992’de K.D. Lang ile birlikte yaptıkları ve bence çok başarılı olan düet versiyonunu tercih ettim, insanın içine işleyen bir şarkı.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – I Won’t Back Down - Full Moon Fever - 1989

Güzel bir motivasyon şarkısıdır. Kendinizi yorgun, bıkkın ve umutsuz hissettiğinizde ihtiyacınız olan silkinmeyi sağlar, enerji yükler. Bütün dünya üstüne geliyor gibi olsa da asla boyun eğmeyenlerin şarkısıdır. Ayrıca gitarda George Harrison ve ELO’dan Jeff Lynne, bateride Ringo Starr da var. Daha ne olsun?

George Bush bu şarkıyı 2000 yılı seçimlerinde kullanınca kendisinden pek hazzetmeyen Tom Petty dava açmakla tehdit etmiştir ama maalesef felakete engel olamamıştır. Yine de gönüllerimizi bu tehditle fethetmiştir.

Oscar Wilde’ın meşhur eseri Dorian Gray’in portresinde hep genç kalabilmek uğruna ruhunu satan Dorian Gray’den tutun da ‘Hızlı yaşa, genç öl, cesedin yakışıklı olsun’ sözünün belki de Türkçe’ye girmesine neden olan asi genç James Dean’e kadar pek çok insan ölümsüzlüğün veya hiç bitmeyen gençliğin sırrını aramıştır.

Alphaville 80’lerde gerçek anlamda iz bırakmış bir gruptur. Big In Japan dinleyip de diskoda dans etmemiş bizim yaş kuşağı genci herhalde yoktur.

Listenin tam ortasını taçlandıran, 80'lerin en sevilen şarkıları anketlerinin bazılarında 1 numarada yer alan, Youtube'da 100 milyon izlemeye ulaşan neredeyse 30 yıllık bir faydalı eser. 

Yıllar sonra Pitbull ve Cristina Aguilera’nın ‘Feel This Moment’ şarkısının temelini oluşturacak kadar hareketli, ‘rotoscoping’ denilen farklı klip tekniğiyle göz alıcı ve A-Ha’nın Hunting High and Low, Stay on These Roads gibi daha mesaj veren şarkıları yerine basit ama bir dönemin ruhunu yansıtan parça.

1991'in soğuk ve kasvetli bir Kasım günü Freddie Mercury'nin ölüm haberini televizyonda duyduğumda ne kadar üzüldüğümü hatırlıyorum. Daha yapacak çok işi, söyleyecek ve yazacak çok şarkısı vardı ama o da vaktinden çok önce gitti.

Queen'in son albümü olan Innuendo aynı zamanda Freddie Mercury'nin veda albümüdür. Bazılarının anlamını çözmek için uğraştığı, bazılarının hiç umursamadığı hayatta herkes şovu bir şekilde sonuna kadar sürdürmek için sürekli bir mücadele içinde. Bazen içimiz kan ağlayarak, bazen mutlulukla ve bazıları da Freddie gibi ölümün yakın olduğunu bildiği halde azimle...

Everybody Hurts - R.E.M. - Automatic For The People - 1992

R.E.M.'in müzik tarihindeki öneminin yüzü suyu hürmetine bir şarkısını almam gerekiyordu. 'Losing My Religion' artık çok çalınıp içi boşaltıldığı için tercihimi Everbody Hurts'ten yana kullandım. Ayrıca Michael Douglas'ın oynadığı harika 'Falling Down' filmiyle de video klibi arasında ciddi bir benzerlik var.

Herkesin hayatında kötü dönemler olabilir, hiçbir çıkış yolu olmadığı düşünülebilir ama umudu kaybetmemek gerekir. Neyse, bu konu üzerine yazılmış binlerce şiir, düzyazı, film ve tiyatro eseri olduğu için kısa kesip şarkıya geçiyorum.

The House Of The Rising Sun - The Animals - The Animals - 1964

Gitar ve orgun bu kadar güzel bir kombinasyonu herhalde az bulunur. Çocukluğumdan kalan hatıralardan bir tanesi de babamın evdeki gitarı tıngırdatarak bu şarkıyı söylemesidir. Tabii bir Eric Burdon değildi ama bas-bariton sesiyle şarkıyı fena da yorumlamazdı.

Şarkı anonimdir ve Nina Simone, Woody Guthrie ve Bob Dylan da dahil pek çok sanatçı tarafından yorumlanmıştır. Öyküsü de bir blues şarkısı gibi acıklıdır ve New Orleans’daki bir genelevi konu alır ama Animals yorumunda bu daha ziyade kumarbaz ve içki düşkünü bir babanın ve sonra da oğlunun günah ve kederle geçen yaşamlarına odaklanır.

Proust’un Kayıp Zamanın İzinde romanı gibi geçmişe, oradaki kaygısız ve gamsız günlere duyulan özlem hepimizde vardır. Aslında gerçekten güzel ve mutlu olan o geçmiş midir yoksa hayalimizde yaşattığımız geçmiş mi?

Roger Waters bile bu muhteşem şarkıda istediklerini tam olarak söyleyemediğinden dem vuruyor ve o anda aklıma Nuri Bilge Ceylan filmlerinde bir türlü akmak bilmeyen zaman, taşradaki o sıkıntı ve boşluk geliyor. Oradan da dünyada bazı insanların ne kadar çok yapacak şeyi ve zamanlarının yetmediğini, ondan çok daha fazla insanın da ne kadar boş hayatlar yaşadığını düşünüyorum..

Bu albümü de bir Kore seyahatinde bulduğumda pek mutlu olmuştum doğrusu. Güzel zamanların sıkı bir şarkısı diyebiliriz. Zaten Def Leppard’ın en çok ses getiren albümü Hysteria’dır ve daha sonra bir daha aynı başarıyı yakalayamadılar.

Bir yandan kaybedilen bir aşkın acısı ve öte yandan unutamamamın verdiği çaresizlik o dönem için fena da olmayan bir video kliple birleşince ergenlik dönemimin iz bırakan bir parçası kendine listede yer buluyor.

Soldier Of Fortune - Deep Purple - Stormbringer - 1974

Liste ilerledikçe ağır toplar arka arkaya gelmeye başlıyor. 70'lerin sıkı hard rock gruplarından Deep Purple'ın bu nefis gitar baladı da özellikle 40'ı devirdikten sonra daha da anlamlı gelmeye başlıyor. 

Arayışlarla oradan oraya savrularak geçen bir yaşam ve en sonunda durulma isteği bir gün herhalde herkeste hasıl olur.

Enjoy The Silence – Depeche Mode – Violator – 1990

Kolejde bizim dönemde okuyup da Evrim arkadaşımız sayesinde Depeche Mode’a yabancı kalan herhalde olmamıştır. Bu virüsü bize de bulaştırdığı için kendisini hayırla yad ediyorum ama asıl diğer tehlikeli virus olan Fenerbahçelilik bulaşıcı olmadığı için sadece kendisi ve yaklaşık 25 milyon bahtsızı etkilemeye devam ediyor.

2001 yılında ekonomik krizin tam göbeğinde Ekim ayında Abdi İpekçi’de Türkiye’de verdikleri ilk konseri yerinde izleme şansına nail olan bahtiyar kullardan birisi olarak hayatımın en güzel gecelerinden birisi olduğunu söyleyebilirim. Bir Kenan Doğulu değilse de(!) bu arkadaşların da sahnesi bayağı iyiymiş.

Bu kadar yazıyorum, çok konuşkan birisi olmasam da özellikle ilginç kişilerle ilginç konular hakkında konuşmayı da severim ama gerçekten de çoğu zaman sessizliğin keyfini çıkarmak gibisi yok.

Sweet Child O’Mine – Guns’n Roses – Appetite For Destruction - 1988

"Sweet Child o' Mine" Guitar World dergisinin "En iyi 100 Gitar Solosu" listesinde 37., Blender'ın ‘Doğduğundan Beri en İyi 500 Şarkı’ listesinde 3., Rolling Stone's en iyi 500 şarkı listesinde 198., Q magazine 100 en iyi gitar parçasında 6., yine Rolling Stone ‘Dünyayı Değiştiren 40 Şarkı’ listesinde yer alıp VH1’ın ‘80’lerin En İyi 100 Şarkısı’ listesinde de kendine 7. Sırada yer bulmuştur.

Bu kadar övgüye mazhar olmuş bir parça için benim fazla bir şey söylememe herhalde gerek kalmadı. Bu müstesna şarkı benim listemde de 42. sırada yer alarak test edilip onaylanıyor.

Nothing Else Matters – Metallica – Metallica – 1992

Benim müzikteki sertlik sınırım Hard Rock’ta Deep Purple, AC-DC veya Metallica gibi gruplarla çizilmiştir. Megadeth, Slayer vs. bana fazla gelir.

Çok sıkı bir Metallica hayranı olmasam da yıllardır bu alanda istikrarlı bir çizgiye sahip olan grup aynı zamanda Hard Rock’ı benim gibi hardcore Hard Rock’çı olmayanlara da sevdirmiştir. Hele bu şarkı gerçekten olağanüstü.

Aslında James Hetfield’ın bu şarkıyı o dönemdeki kız arkadaşı için turnedeyken yazdığı iddia edilse de Hetfield yıllar sonra belki o ilişkiyi unutmak da istediği için popülist bir yaklaşımla hayranlarına adamıştır.
